A new Jakks Pacific playset has just leaked via Amazon, and it’s already sparking plenty of speculation from Sonic collectors. The listing reveals a brand-new “Hammer Egg Robot” set releasing on June 5, designed for use with the 2.5-inch Classic Sonic figure line. It comes packed with a Classic Sonic figure and features articulated limbs and projectile cannons—but the name and design raise a few big questions. Mainly: what exactly is this robot based on?
The official product description mentions several gameplay-inspired features: spinning arms, a projectile cannon, and a “defeat feature” that causes the robot to fall apart after taking three hits. That last detail is especially interesting, as it mirrors the gimmick used in Jakks Pacific’s earlier Death Egg Robot playset, which faithfully recreated the final boss from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 with a destructible mechanism triggered by three chest hits. This new release seems to follow a similar design philosophy.

While no Classic boss has ever been officially named the “Hammer Egg Robot,” one possible inspiration could be the first boss from Sonic Superstars. That enemy doesn’t currently have an official name, but the spinning-arm mechanics and the general silhouette appear to match the description in this listing. Whether that’s the direct reference or not remains unconfirmed, but the timing and functionality certainly make it a strong possibility.

With no official images or announcements yet from Jakks or SEGA, the full context remains a mystery. Still, considering Jakks Pacific’s growing commitment to game-accurate and interactive designs, fans are excited about what could be another standout addition to the Classic Sonic toy line.
Are you planning to add the Hammer Egg Robot to your collection? Did you already pick up the Death Egg Robot playset? And more importantly—who do you think this mysterious boss is meant to be?
We’ll likely find out soon when the toy officially launches on June 5.
