The original Sonic the Hedgehog Mega Drive cartridge is back, although you won’t be plugging this one into your console! Collectibles manufacturer Fanattik has unveiled an officially licensed metal replica of Sonic’s first game, limited to just 5,000 individually numbered pieces worldwide.
Announced by Fanattik on October 28, the collectible recreates the familiar cartridge design in embossed metal, with raised detailing on both the front and reverse. Each piece measures 107 × 68 × 6 mm, making it a compact little tribute to Sonic’s 1991 debut.
Every replica carries its own individual edition number on the back. The promotional photography also shows a retro-style display case inspired by the game’s original packaging, adding to the nostalgic presentation.
And there’s already a catch for collectors hoping to grab one. Fanattik originally listed the replica for £29.99 GBP, but the official product page is currently marked sold out.
The manufacturer hasn’t indicated whether additional stock will become available. The advertised 5,000-piece figure refers to the worldwide production limit.
