Sonic fans looking for an excuse to add another LEGO set to the pile have a pretty good one this weekend.
Beginning today, August 21, LEGO is offering the new Badnik: Skorp set (30733) as a free gift with qualifying gaming purchases of $40 or more in the United States. The promotion runs through August 24, or while supplies last, and applies to purchases from LEGO’s Sonic the Hedgehog, Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing, Fortnite and Minecraft ranges.
The little Skorp build contains 80 pieces and recreates one of Dr. Eggman’s familiar Badniks with an articulated wrecking-ball tail and movable drill claws. LEGO has also thrown in three Gold Rings, because apparently even murderous robotic scorpions need something worth collecting along the way. It is also the first LEGO Skorp Badnik figure set released by the company.
Despite being used as the promotional gift this weekend, LEGO gives the set an approximate retail value of $4.99. The official U.S. product page currently lists the same price and recommends the 80-piece build for ages six and up.
Qualifying purchases can be made online through LEGO.com, at LEGO Stores or through LEGO Catalog telephone orders. The $40 threshold can also be reached by mixing products from the eligible gaming themes rather than buying Sonic sets exclusively, so a Sonic set and some Mario or Minecraft merchandise can still qualify together. Pick a Brick Standard orders do not count toward the promotion.
There are a few other conditions worth keeping in mind. LEGO limits the promotion to one Skorp set per household, it cannot be applied retroactively to earlier purchases, and the gift must also be returned if the qualifying merchandise is returned for a refund. The offer does not apply at LEGOLAND Parks, LEGOLAND Discovery Centers or LEGO Certified Stores.
It is a tiny addition compared with LEGO’s larger Sonic sets, but Skorp is exactly the sort of enemy build that helps flesh out a LEGO Sonic display beyond the main cast. And for anyone already planning to spend $40 on LEGO gaming sets this weekend, three extra Rings and another Badnik are considerably nicer than nothing.
