Japanese professional esports team ZETA DIVISION has announced that Sonic the Hedgehog is joining its Creator division for a limited time this summer.
The collaboration was revealed as part of ZETA DIVISION’s fifth anniversary announcements on July 8, 2026, and will bring Sonic into a range of upcoming content alongside members of the organization.

Sonic marked the announcement with a special message:
“Hey! I’m Sonic.
Sonic the Hedgehog, the adventure-loving hedgehog who runs at the speed of sound!
When I heard that some exciting challenges were waiting on the greatest stage, there was no way I could sit still!
I’ve decided to go all out with k4sen at ZETA DIVISION!
Look forward to seeing what we get up to!
Let’s moving!”

The story behind the collaboration began with Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds The k4sen, an event held in February.
After k4sen claimed victory at the event, Sonic appeared before the celebrating streamer and remarked on the excitement surrounding the competition.
Despite meeting for the first time, k4sen recognized Sonic as a fellow challenger and invited him to join ZETA DIVISION, suggesting that they celebrate their shared 35th anniversary year through their best performances.

Sonic accepted the invitation, combining his curiosity about a new place to play with the opportunity to celebrate both anniversaries together.
The timing is particularly fitting. Sonic celebrated his 35th anniversary on June 23, while k4sen is also marking 35 years in 2026.
To commemorate Sonic’s sudden addition to ZETA DIVISION, collaborative merchandise featuring Sonic and k4sen is now in development. Further details about the anniversary items will be announced at a later date.
ZETA DIVISION says Sonic will serve as a powerful new ally as the organization prepares to release additional collaborative content throughout the summer.

The announcement was one of several projects revealed for ZETA DIVISION’s fifth anniversary.
The team will also hold the ZETA DIVISION 5TH ANNIVERSARY POP UP in Tokyo from July 31 through August 2. The event will run daily from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, with details about the venue, admission process, and merchandise to be announced later.
Other anniversary plans include an original ZETA-kun gaming PC produced with LEVEL∞ and a new collection of ZETA-kun LINE stickers.

Since making his debut in the original Sonic the Hedgehog in 1991, Sonic has expanded beyond games into films, animation, music, merchandise, and live events. SEGA says the series has surpassed a combined total of 1.77 billion full-game sales and free-to-play downloads worldwide.
Sonic’s limited-time arrival at ZETA DIVISION adds another unexpected collaboration to his 35th anniversary year, bringing the Blue Blur further into the worlds of esports, streaming, and gaming culture.
