Adam Pally has addressed the chances of Knuckles returning for a second season, and fans may want to keep expectations in check.
Speaking with The Direct while promoting O Horizon, Pally was asked whether Sonic fans should still expect another season of the Paramount+ spin-off. According to Pally, Knuckles was always treated as a limited series rather than an ongoing show.
“It was a limited series, so… I don’t know if that was ever truly in the cards,” Pally said. “But I do know that the franchise is strong and running on a full tank of gas, so to speak. There’s a lot of plans and surprises.”
Pally played Wade Whipple in the Sonic the Hedgehog films before returning as one of the central characters in Knuckles. The Paramount+ series paired Wade with Idris Elba’s Knuckles, following the echidna as he adjusted to life on Earth and trained Wade in the ways of the Echidna warrior.
When asked what he would want to explore if Knuckles did return, Pally pointed to the cast rather than a specific storyline, saying he enjoyed working with Edi Patterson and became close with Idris Elba and Scott Mescudi, also known as Kid Cudi, during the show’s press run.
Knuckles was first announced in 2022 as part of Paramount’s expanding Sonic movie universe. Former Paramount CEO Brian Robbins previously referred to the project as a miniseries, which lines up with Pally’s latest comments that a second season may not have been part of the plan.
The series premiered on Paramount+ in 2024 and was set between Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3. While it became a streaming success for Paramount+, the lack of a second-season announcement has left its future uncertain.
That does not mean Knuckles is disappearing from the franchise. Idris Elba is expected to return as Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog 4, which is currently scheduled to release in theaters on March 19, 2027. The next film will also bring Amy Rose and Metal Sonic into the spotlight, following their tease at the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. We recently covered the film’s first official copyright synopsis, which confirmed that Sonic will be joined by Amy while facing Metal Sonic as a new technological nemesis.
For now, Knuckles Season 2 remains unlikely unless Paramount decides to revisit the idea. Pally’s comments suggest the show may have done exactly what it was designed to do: bridge the gap between films, give Knuckles and Wade their own spotlight, and keep the Sonic movie universe moving between theatrical releases.
