SEGA and pop-up restauranteur Andy Nguyen are bringing the Sonic the Hedgehog Speed Cafe to Chicago for the first time. Opening December 20 2025 at 1422 N Milwaukee Ave in Wicker Park, this new pop-up marks the sixth location for the immersive Sonic themed eatery and its debut in Illinois.
The Chicago Speed Cafe is designed to make guests feel as though they have stepped directly into Sonic’s world, complete with custom decor and exclusive packaging created just for this location. Fans can enjoy a menu filled with Sonic inspired items including the Sonic the Hedgehog Turbo Chili Dog, the Spicy Fried Chicken Knuckles Sandwich and Power Up Ring Onion Rings. Drinks include the Sonic Boom Lemonade and the Chaos Emerald Refresher, a colorful nod to the franchise’s iconic gems.
Chicago guests will also be able to pick up city exclusive Speed Cafe merchandise such as shirts, hats and hoodies themed around the Windy City. Local Chicago artist Luis De Guzman is contributing a custom Sonic mural inside the restaurant to give this pop-up a unique local flavor.
The Chicago launch also introduces several new menu items to the Speed Cafe lineup. These include Knuckles Smash Fries topped with smoky beef chili, cheddar and jalapenos; Shadow’s Eclipse Affogato made with vanilla ice cream, espresso and warm strawberry drizzle; and the Scoop de Loop Ice Cream Sandwich featuring blue vanilla ice cream between chocolate chip cookies dusted in cookie crumble. The menu for this location was developed by Chicago chef David Choi.
The Sonic the Hedgehog Speed Cafe first opened in San Diego in July 2023 to strong fan reception and has since appeared in multiple cities across California, Texas and Georgia. Its Chicago debut continues SEGA’s expanding lineup of Sonic themed food experiences and collaborations.
The pop-up will temporarily take over the Seoul Taco location and will revert back once the event concludes.
