Star Garden, an upcoming indie game inspired by Sonic Adventure and Kirby Air Ride, has blown past its Kickstarter goal of $35,000, raising more than $158,000 with 20 days still left in the campaign. Now, developer Game Garage has revealed a new stretch goal that may excite fans of both Sonic and Nintendo classics.

If the campaign reaches $180,000, legendary composer Shogo Sakai will contribute two original tracks to the game. Sakai is best known for his work on Mother 3, Kirby Air Ride, and Super Smash Bros. Melee. After leaving HAL Laboratory in 2023, he began working as a freelance composer, engaging directly with fans through YouTube while continuing to create new music.

The collaboration came together thanks to Robert Maloney, producer of Deltarune, who connected Sakai with the young team at Game Garage. Writing in a blog post, Sakai shared how meaningful the opportunity felt to him:

“To be honest, at my age, being invited by younger creators to take part in a new project is something I find profoundly moving. For me, there is only one way to respond: to pour everything I can into writing good music, and to help make Star Garden as compelling and beautiful a work as possible.”

As for the game itself, Star Garden tasks players with raising and training mystical pets called Lumi, reminiscent of Sonic’s Chao. These creatures can evolve into vehicle-like forms inspired by Warp Stars, which players then use to battle and race across vibrant, colorful worlds.

With stretch goals already unlocking PlayStation and Xbox versions, the addition of Sakai’s music would further cement Star Garden as one of the most exciting indie projects on the horizon. Fans who want to support the project can still back it now on Kickstarter.
