With SEGA showing no signs of reviving the beloved Chao Garden from the Sonic Adventure series, a group of dedicated fans have decided to make their own. Their project, Star Garden, aims to recapture the magic of raising, customizing, and evolving creatures in a brand-new world.

Developed by indie studio Game Garage, the game mixes creature care with combat racing, exploration, and collection. Players take on the roles of Leo and Lyra, cosmic ecologists who crash-land on the planet Solaris and encounter Chao-like creatures known as Lumi. Lumi can transform into rideable vehicles, with stats affecting their handling in a style reminiscent of Kirby Air Ride.

The team cites Sonic Adventure’s Chao Garden as its biggest influence, with additional inspiration from Dreamcast-era titles like Phantasy Star Online and Jet Set Radio. For an extra hit of nostalgia, Star Garden will feature Sonic R vocalist TJ Davis as the in-game announcer.
Operating so far with no budget, Game Garage plans to launch a Kickstarter campaign on September 2, 2025, alongside a free Steam demo. Platforms beyond PC have yet to be confirmed, but more details will be shared during the campaign.
