Sonic and the Blade of Courage begins serialization today in the July issue of CoroCoro Magazine. Alongside the release, the publishing firm revealed the cover art, which depicts Sonic running alongside the mysterious boy character we previously reported on. His name is Yuuta, and he will embark on this new journey with our favorite blue hedgehog.

The first episode of this grand adventure is a 60-page special edition, which is unusually long for a debut chapter. This might reflect the strong reception of the Shadow the Hedgehog manga, which was released monthly to celebrate and promote Sonic X Shadow Generations.

The manga is written and illustrated by Yuuki Imada, who also previously created the Shadow the Hedgehog manga.

In addition to the release, CoroCoro issued a statement in both Japanese and English, asking readers to refrain from posting scans and screenshots of the manga online. Most notably, they also confirmed that the company is looking into ways to distribute both Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic and the Blade of Courage overseas:

For our readers overseas, we are making every effort to prepare overseas editions of Imada’s previous series, Shikkoku no Harinezumi: Shadow the Hedgehog, and his new series Sonic to Yuki no Tsurugi.

We will let you know when we have more information about these.

You can read the full statement here.

This is welcome news for international fans, as the Shadow the Hedgehog manga has remained exclusive to Japan, with limited access outside of fan translations. An official overseas release of both series would be a major win for fans eager to enjoy a solid adaptation of Shadow Generations and this brand-new Sonic adventure.

For now, you can purchase the Japanese versions of the full Shadow the Hedgehog manga and the first issue of Sonic and the Blade of Courage on Bookwalker.
