Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is officially speeding onto all major problems this September 25. Announced today with a brand new trailer, the latest entry in the Sonic Racing series promises high-octane action, deep customization, and the biggest character roster in the franchise’s history.
The game will launch with over 23 playable racers, including fan-favorite Sonic characters and a surprising selection of crossover guests from Sega, Atlus, and beyond. Yes, that includes characters from other iconic franchises such as Minecraft, along with legends from classic Sega series. The roster will continue to grow post-launch with even more unexpected additions.
In a statement from Sonic Team Creative Officer Takashi Iizuka, the goal for CrossWorlds was to create a true evolution of the Sonic Racing series. “We wanted this to be the next major title in the series that started with Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing,” Iizuka said. “That meant breaking down franchise walls and offering players a racing experience that feels both nostalgic and brand new.”
Gameplay introduces a new mechanic called Travel Rings. These glowing rings appear mid-race and teleport racers to entirely new dimensions across land, sea, air, time, and space. The twist is that the racer in first place during lap two chooses the next world for everyone, making every match unpredictable and full of surprises.
Players can race through both brand new tracks and reimagined classics from Sonic’s past, including a return to Metal Harbor from Sonic Adventure 2. The game also brings back Extreme Gear hoverboards from Sonic Riders, along with over 70 customizable gadgets that adjust vehicle stats, abilities, and more.
Customization goes deep. Players can tweak their cars or boards to suit their style, from power boosts and item loadouts to visual elements like decals and paint jobs. Every race can feel different, with setups tailored to your own playstyle.
CrossWorlds will be available in both Standard and Digital Deluxe editions. The Digital Deluxe edition offers three days of early access and includes the Season Pass, which adds new characters, vehicles, and tracks based on other Sega and third-party franchises. It also features racers inspired by Sonic Prime.

As a bonus, players who pre-order either digital edition will unlock the Werehog from Sonic Unleashed as a playable character. He comes with a themed vehicle and exclusive decal.
With its diverse roster, dimensional mechanics, customizable vehicles, and crossover surprises, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is shaping up to be the most ambitious Sonic racing game yet.
