Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is nearing the end of its theatrical run, wrapping up an impressive box office journey just shy of the $500 million milestone. As of now, the film has grossed $236 million domestically and $253 million internationally, bringing its total to $489 million worldwide. While it remains unlikely that the movie will even reach $490 million, its performance has solidified it as the highest-grossing entry in the franchise and one of the most successful video game adaptations to date.

The film opened strong, earning $60 million in its debut weekend and comfortably beating Mufasa: The Lion King, a film many had expected to dominate. Sonic 3 held onto its lead for a second weekend, dropping only 38% and adding another $37 million to its total. It wasn’t until the third weekend that Mufasa overtook it, but Sonic 3 still managed to earn $21 million, outpacing major titles like Moana 2 and Wicked. The film remained in the top five for six weekends, only slipping out during its seventh weekend when new releases like Dog Man and Companion entered the market.

Now, as the movie exits theaters, it continues to find success on streaming. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has been available on Paramount+ since February 18, making it easily accessible to fans eager to revisit the action. Meanwhile, the first two Sonic films are available across multiple platforms, with the original streaming on Peacock and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on both Paramount+ and Netflix. While Paramount+ will always house the Sonic films as part of the studio’s catalog, it’s clear that they won’t be restricted to just one streaming service.

With its theatrical run coming to an end, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 stands as another major win for the franchise, setting the stage for Sonic the Hedgehog 4, which is already confirmed for a 2027 release. Fans who missed Sonic 3 in theaters can now watch it on Paramount+.
