SuitNTie22, an animator who worked on the end credits for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, recently shared a detailed behind-the-scenes look at the production through a Twitter thread and YouTube video. In his accounts, he revealed how he got involved, the creative process behind the animations, and a surprising connection to Sonic the Fighters models.

In August, SuitNTie22 was approached by Picturemill, the studio overseeing the end credits production. The studio discovered him through his social media presence, where his work on VTuber models and Dragon Ball parody content had garnered attention. With the team already having a clear vision, SuitNTie22 helped bring it to life.

The most intriguing revelation was that many of the character models in the credits—except for Robotnik and Agent Stone—originated from AM2’s Sonic the Fighters. These models were heavily modified to align with the movie’s aesthetic:

  • Sonic: Updated with blue arms.
  • Tails: Tail shapes were adjusted.
  • Knuckles: Made taller with longer dreadlocks.
  • Shadow: Built from a modified Sonic model and made slightly smaller. SuitNTie22 proudly highlighted this as the first appearance of “Classic Shadow” in an official Sonic product.

While Sonic the Fighters models served as the foundation, other characters and objects were designed entirely from scratch, including:

  • Chao and Eggmen: Created in-house, with the Eggmen retaining their Sonic Adventure design but slimmed down.
  • Agent Stone: Introduced late in production as a background DJ, complete with Eggman-inspired headphones and his signature grin.
  • Shadow’s Motorcycle and the Crab: Added late in development.

Other interesting tidbits include:

  • Super Sonic and Super Shadow:
Although not explicitly detailed, it’s likely these models were based on modifications of Sonic’s design.
  • “Run It” Music Video
SuitNTie22 also contributed to this video, which almost included a sequence of Sonic line dancing.
  • Shadow’s Gun
Early designs for Shadow’s weapon were far more realistic than the final version used in the credits.

Although SuitNTie22 didn’t work on the backgrounds, his animations played a key role in bringing the credits to life. Notably, some sequences—such as Shadow breaking out of his tube—were animated by another artist, TV16bit.
