Sonic the Hedgehog Speed Cafe, a fun, family-friendly Sonic-themed restaurant, will open its first Texas location in Katy on May 4. The three-month pop-up is part of an exclusive collaboration between gaming brand SEGA and Secret Sauce Society’s Andy NguyenKevin Seo and Phillip Huynh. In addition to being a Southern California restaurateur, Nguyen is also a co-founder of the Houston smash hit Trill Burgers.

The nostalgic eatery is heavily inspired by Sonic the Hedgehog’s iconic universe and will make visitors feel as if they are walking into Sonic’s world. The menu features items based on the franchise such as Sonic’s Classic Chili Dog; spicy fried chicken Knuckles Sandwich; Piko Piko Tenders; and sides including Golden Ring onion rings; Fast Fries, an homage to Sonic’s speed; and the Green Hill Vegan Chili Cup. Drinks inspired by Sonic characters include the Blue Blur blueberry slush (Sonic); Smashing Echidna fruit punch slush (Knuckles); Team Dark mocha milkshake (Shadow); Sweet Amy strawberry milkshake (Amy Rose); and Tails Spin Tea (Tails). Each Sonic Speed Cafe order will come in custom-designed packaging featuring everyone’s favorite Sonic characters, and visitors will be able to purchase exclusive Sonic the Hedgehog Speed Cafe merchandise including T-shirts, hoodies and hats.

Sonic the Hedgehog Speed Cafe debuted at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2023, earning raving reviews and long lines from gaming fans and foodies alike. On the heels of its success, Secret Sauce Society opened a second pop-up location in Chino Hills, Calif., in November 2023. This is the third pop-up location and first location outside of California.

The pop-up will open at 348 S Mason Rd., near Interstate-10 and State Highway 99 (Grand Parkway), temporarily taking the place of Craft Burger. Craft Burger owner Shannen Tune, a Houston celebrity chef and “Chopped” champion, helped curate the menu for the colorful Katy pop-up. New menu items for the Texas location include Tune’s Chaotix Hot Dog with chopped brisket, crispy onions and BBQ sauce; Ultimate Fearless Hot Dog with cheese, pepperoni and marinara sauce; and Zomom’s Hunger Buster Fries topped with chopped brisket, cheddar cheese and green onions.

Does anyone have any helpful reviews on the Sonic Cafe in Katy, Texas?

Hot dogs were overpriced and look store bought. You will regret buying any of the Sonic dogs. Go to Costco for their $2 hot dogs, they have way better quality.

  7. Shadow

Hot dogs were overpriced and look store bought. About $17 for a dog with almost no brisket..
