It’s only been a month since Sonic Frontiers released and already, the game broke records in Japan back in November, becoming the fastest selling game in the franchise’s history in the region by selling 40k units across all platforms in its first week according to Famitsu.

Yesterday, the official Japanese SEGA twitter account announced that the game had sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide! Becoming the second fastest selling Sonic game since Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive and on route to becoming one of the best selling games of the franchise.

This is no doubt a result of the Black Friday and Holiday sales that the game has been a part of, in which the game is being sold at a steep 52% discount in some retailers, and the release of the Sonic Movies that helped promote the franchise to new audiences.

Now with Sonic Prime on its way to Netflix tomorrow, December 15, and new free DLC coming to Sonic Frontiers in 2023, it’s possible that we’ll see these numbers go way beyond the figures that we already have in the coming months!
