Sonic’s heading back to Green Hill Zone, but this time he’s helping kids learn to spell!
SEGA and Lingokids are teaming up to create ten educational Sonic the Hedgehog games, with the first five launching on December 3 and another five planned for spring 2027.
The partnership was revealed by Variety, with Sonic, Amy, Dr. Eggman and the Chao set to appear in a collection of interactive activities developed by SEGA and Lingokids Studios. The idea is to combine familiar Sonic adventures with learning challenges designed specifically for younger children.
One of the games will take kids racing through Green Hill Zone while practising spelling, recognising letters and learning action verbs. Other activities involve identifying fruits and flowers while guiding Sonic and friends along different paths, or getting creative by painting colourful scenes featuring their favourite characters.

There’s a pretty good reason why Lingokids wanted Sonic on its platform, too. Speaking to Variety, Lingokids Studios chief Mathias Royer revealed that Sonic was the most-searched character on the service by a considerable margin.
That lines up with Lingokids’ earlier research, which Sonic City covered in August. The company’s Kids Interactive Entertainment Report ranked Sonic as the second-most popular character among boys aged 3–8, behind only Spider-Man.
SEGA of America’s vice president of strategy and creative for emerging digital platforms, Hez Chorba, explained that the collaboration is partly about helping longtime Sonic fans introduce the character to their own children.
The experience is also designed with younger audiences in mind. According to Chorba, Lingokids offers no advertisements or chat features, with its content reviewed by education experts.
The first five Sonic activities will arrive through the Lingokids app on December 3, with the remaining five following next spring.
