SONIC PICO PARK is all about trying to cooperate with up to seven other people without everything immediately going wrong.
At least now those people will not all need to be playing on the same platform.
SEGA has confirmed that SONIC PICO PARK will support cross-platform play alongside online multiplayer when it launches later in 2026, removing one potentially significant barrier for a game built almost entirely around getting groups of players together.
The confirmation comes from SEGA of America Senior Director of Communications Richard George as part of the company’s Gamescom 2026 update. SEGA says the upcoming cooperative puzzle game will support up to eight players and have both “cross platform and online capabilities.”
Online multiplayer itself is not new information. SONIC PICO PARK has been described as supporting local or online play for two to eight players since its reveal, and Sonic City’s earlier hands-on coverage already discussed how its puzzles are designed around groups coordinating their actions together. The important addition here is that SEGA is now explicitly confirming cross-platform support, meaning the online side of that cooperative experience will not be restricted entirely to players within a single platform ecosystem.
There is still one fairly obvious piece missing, however: we do not actually know what all of those platforms are yet.
PC is currently confirmed through Steam. SEGA’s Gamescom update does not announce a console lineup, despite appearing on PlayStation Blog, so we would not take the post itself as confirmation of a PlayStation release or start filling in Switch and Xbox logos on SEGA’s behalf.
The new detail comes as SONIC PICO PARK makes its public Gamescom appearance after we previously reported that the game would be playable at SEGA’s booth in Cologne. The latest build includes Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Shadow, with players working together through PICO PARK-style puzzles using Sonic-inspired actions and mechanics.
For a game where assembling the group is half the battle, cross-platform multiplayer could end up being one of its more important practical features. Now we just need SEGA and PICO PARK Inc. to tell us exactly which platforms will be crossing over with one another.
