Apparently Sonic is not the only hedgehog who gets to go gold in Fortnite.

Epic Games has announced the Shadow Cup, a new Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4: Override competitive event taking place on August 21, and the tournament has quietly revealed several major pieces of the Sonic crossover that had still been under wraps. Most importantly, we now have official confirmation of a Shadow the Hedgehog Outfit, a Super Shadow Transformation Emote, and a Doom’s Eye Back Bling.

That makes this considerably more interesting than another themed tournament. Sonic City’s recent Override coverage had already established Shadow as part of the crossover, but his exact cosmetic rollout remained one of the major unanswered questions after Epic detailed Sonic, Super Sonic and the Tails Sidekick. The Shadow Cup finally gives us some concrete answers, while also establishing that Super Shadow will be represented through his own transformation Emote, much like Super Sonic is being handled through Sonic’s Battle Pass cosmetics. Epic’s rules specifically call the reward the “Super Shadow Transformation” Emote, although they do not currently describe it as a built-in Emote or explain exactly how the transformation functions in-game. There is also Doom’s Eye, which will be available as a Back Bling alongside Shadow. All three major cosmetics are grouped together as placement rewards, meaning sufficiently high-ranking players will receive the Shadow Outfit, Super Shadow Transformation and Doom’s Eye Back Bling as a set. Epic has not yet announced how Shadow or these accompanying cosmetics will be distributed outside the tournament, so the Cup currently represents the first confirmed way to obtain them. Epic Games’ FortniteThe standard Shadow Cup is divided into separate Battle Royale and Zero Build Solo tournaments, each lasting approximately three hours and allowing players to complete up to 11 matches. Placement requirements vary significantly by region. In Europe, the top 1,000 players in each tournament will earn Shadow, his Super transformation and Doom’s Eye. North America Central awards them to the top 700, Brazil and North America West to the top 200, and Oceania, Asia and the Middle East to the top 100.

Players do not necessarily have to reach those lofty positions to leave with something Sonic-related, either. Anyone reaching 40 points in the Battle Royale or Zero Build Cups will receive the Sonic’s Roll Spray, while 8 points unlock the Shadow’s Power Spray. That gives considerably more players a chance to pick up something from the event even if Super Shadow proves slightly beyond their competitive abilities.

A separate Shadow Mobile Cup will also take place on August 21 using Solo Reload, with sessions lasting approximately one hour and 15 minutes and allowing up to eight matches. Its cosmetic placement pools are smaller, with the top 200 players in Europe, top 150 in North America Central, and top 30 in the remaining listed regions receiving Shadow, Super Shadow and Doom’s Eye. The spray requirements are correspondingly lower, with Sonic’s Roll awarded at 20 points and Shadow’s Power at just 5. Epic’s competitive page says the Mobile Cup is available to Android and iOS players, while final regional session times are listed through Fortnite’s competitive schedule and in-game.

The Super Shadow reveal is easily the biggest Sonic takeaway here. Epic only just confirmed that Sonic’s Override appearance includes a transformation into Super Sonic, and now Shadow is receiving the same basic idea through his own dedicated transformation cosmetic. Combined with Doom’s Eye, Epic is clearly giving the Ultimate Life Form a much more substantial Fortnite debut than simply adding his robotic counterpart as an Outfit. The timing also means we will not have to wait long to see what all of this looks like in practice. Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4: Override begins on August 20, with the Shadow Cup following one day later on August 21. Epic has not yet detailed Shadow’s eventual wider availability, pricing, or whether the tournament cosmetics will later appear through another method, so those pieces of the crossover remain to be announced.

For now, though, Shadow has an Outfit, Doom’s Eye is coming along for the ride, and Super Shadow is officially heading to Fortnite.

Chaos Control your way into the top 1,000, apparently.
