SEGA is bringing Sonic’s animated history to Anime Expo 2026 with a special 35th anniversary panel focused on the franchise’s animated shorts.
The panel, titled “SEGA presents Sonic the Hedgehog Animated Shorts: A Frame-by-Frame Retrospective,” will take place on Friday, July 3, from 3:00 PM to 3:50 PM PDT at Petree Hall.
The event will give fans a behind-the-scenes look at Sonic the Hedgehog’s animated shorts, celebrating the artistry, storytelling, and character work behind some of the franchise’s most beloved recent animation projects.
Anime Expo has confirmed several special guests for the panel, including Sonic Creative Director Takashi Iizuka, Tyson Hesse, Evan Stanley, Alan Wan, and more. With creators from across Sonic games, comics, and animation involved, the panel looks set to offer a wider look at how Sonic’s animated identity has evolved over the years.
The official announcement invites fans to “take a peek behind the curtain” as SEGA celebrates 35 years of Sonic. Anime Expo 2026 will run from July 2 through July 5 at the Los Angeles Convention Center in California. Fans attending the convention can register through Anime Expo’s official channels and use the AX Mobile App for scheduling details.
With Sonic’s 35th anniversary bringing new games, merchandise, music, events, and collaborations throughout the year, this Anime Expo panel gives animation fans a chance to celebrate another major part of Sonic’s legacy.
