SEGA has shared new technical details for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, confirming a major upgrade in both resolution and performance compared to the original Switch release. The information comes from SEGA’s official Switch 2 FAQ, outlining how the game will perform across docked and handheld modes, as well as during split-screen multiplayer sessions.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds – Switch 2 Edition Performance and Resolution

  • Docked Mode (Single & 2-Player Split-Screen): 2560×1440 @ 60fps
  • Docked Mode (4-Player Split-Screen): 2560×1440 @ 30fps
  • Handheld Mode (Single & 2-Player Split-Screen): 1920×1080 @ 60fps
  • Handheld Mode (4-Player Split-Screen): 1920×1080 @ 30fps

This represents a substantial leap from the original Nintendo Switch version, which ran at roughly 30 frames per second depending on the number of players. The new edition doubles the frame rate in most modes while delivering sharper visuals and smoother performance, making for a more vibrant and responsive racing experience.

According to SEGA, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds – Switch 2 Edition will require 16GB of storage and include cross-platform matchmaking, allowing players to race seamlessly with others across supported platforms. As previously confirmed, the physical edition will ship with the complete base game on a 64GB cartridge, making it one of SEGA’s most content-complete physical releases for the console.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition launches digitally on December 4, 2025, with a 50% discount on the Upgrade Pack available to existing Nintendo Switch players during launch week.
