The reviews are in, and the verdict is clear: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds delivers. As of the time of writing, SEGA’s latest racer currently holds a strong 83 on Metacritic, ranking it above Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed (82) and only a few points shy of Mario Kart World.
Critics widely agree that CrossWorlds represents the peak of Sonic racing, blending polished mechanics with unique features like CrossWorld stage transitions and deep vehicle customization.
IGN’s Jada Griffin awarded the game a 9/10, writing that “the racing itself feels fast, fantastic, and intuitive, with lots of options to tweak your stats to your preferred playstyle.”
Callum Marshall of DualShockers gave it an 8/10, acknowledging it as a serious contender in a space long dominated by Nintendo. While citing concerns over multiplayer depth and paid content, he concluded that “as far as kart racers go, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is right up there with the best.”
GameSpot’s Steve Watts scored it a 7/10, praising the single-player offerings and customization systems but finding the online modes “slightly underwhelming.” Even so, he described the game as “a solid package” and easy to recommend for fans of more mechanically rich kart racing.
Altogether, the reception positions Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds as a major success for Sonic Team, continuing the franchise’s renaissance that began with Sonic Frontiers and was strengthened by Sonic X Shadow Generations.
The Blue Blur’s racing career has never looked stronger.
