Shadow the Hedgehog’s long-awaited solo outing in Chasing Shadows has quietly vanished from the near-term release calendar, sparking concern among fans. The comic, originally slated for March 2025, was recently listed with a placeholder date of March 4, 2026 on PreviewsWorld—prompting fears of a massive delay.

Fortunately, that alarming date may not reflect reality. Writer Kiel Phegley took to Bluesky to clarify the situation, assuring fans that the delay is routine and the issue is still in active production. According to Phegley, the holdup is mostly due to editorial coordination between SEGA and IDW, and he just submitted new pages in late April.

He also cautioned against relying on PreviewsWorld for accurate release info, pointing out that it’s no longer IDW’s primary distributor. Instead, Penguin Random House now handles IDW’s book market releases. “Previews just defaults to a year out when a title is delayed,” Phegley explained, suggesting that the 2026 date was likely just a placeholder.

It’s not the first time IDW’s Sonic line has seen a schedule shakeup, but with Shadow’s star power and strong fan interest, it’s unlikely this one-shot will remain off shelves for long. A more realistic timeframe could see the comic rescheduled for late 2025 once production wraps and marketing can realign.

Until then, fans will have to sit tight and keep an eye on PRH listings for updates. Shadow may be biding his time, but his story’s still coming.
