The premiere of the first official trailer for the highly anticipated original series, Knuckles, on Paramount+ last week has shattered the platform’s record for the most-watched trailer debut across all original content on social media platforms within its initial 24 hours. Moreover, during the broadcast of Super Bowl LVIII on the CBS Television Network and the live stream on Paramount+ on Sunday, Feb. 11, viewers were treated to an exclusive new Knuckles spot. This Super Bowl ad also made a delightful appearance during Nickelodeon’s special broadcast of Super Bowl LVIII for kids and families, where Knuckles and his friends surprised the audience with their presence.

This forthcoming live-action event series chronicles the humorous and thrilling journey of self-discovery undertaken by Knuckles (portrayed by Idris Elba), who agrees to mentor Wade (played by Adam Pally) and impart upon him the ways of the Echidna warrior. Set between the events of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the series promises to be an exhilarating ride for fans.

In addition to Elba’s portrayal of the titular character, Adam Pally reprises his role as Wade Whipple from the film franchise. The ensemble cast boasts esteemed guest stars including Stockard Channing (The West Wing), Edi Patterson (The Righteous Gemstones), Scott Mescudi (Don’t Look Up), Ellie Taylor (Ted Lasso), Julian Barratt (Mindhorn), Rory McCann (Game of Thrones), Cary Elwes (Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning), Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future), Paul Scheer (Black Monday), and Rob Huebel (Childrens Hospital). Ben Schwartz and Tika Sumpter return as special guest stars, reprising their roles as Sonic and Maddie respectively, while Colleen O’Shaughnessey returns as Tails.

The series is helmed by the same creative team behind the successful films, with Jeff Fowler, the director and executive producer of the films, directing the pilot episode and overseeing the transition of the cinematic animation style to television. The series is executive produced by Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, John Whittington, Toru Nakahara, and Idris Elba. Additional directors for the series include Ged Wright, Brandon Trost, Jorma Taccone, and Carol Banker.

Knuckles was conceived for television by John Whittington and Toby Ascher, with Whittington serving as head writer and penning the pilot episode. Joining the writing team are Brian Schacter and James Madejski.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 continues to be the top-performing Kids & Family film on Paramount+ in terms of reach and re-watching. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is slated for theatrical release on December 20th, 2024.
