SEGA has officially confirmed plans to release four major new titles from its core franchises during the next financial year, which runs from April 1, 2026 through March 31, 2027.
The announcement was made in the company’s latest financial report, where parent company Sega Sammy Holdings outlined its strategy moving forward. While no specific titles were named, the wording “major new titles for mainstay IPs” has immediately sparked speculation, particularly among Sonic fans.

For the Sonic franchise, the timing is notable. The series continues to receive post launch support through Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, but there has been no official announcement regarding the next brand new mainline installment.
It has now been nearly four years since Sonic Frontiers introduced a new direction for 3D Sonic gameplay with its open zone structure. With SEGA traditionally targeting at least one Sonic related release per year, the newly outlined financial window strongly suggests that a major Sonic project could be part of the four game lineup scheduled before March 2027.
Beyond Sonic, several flagship franchises are already in development. SEGA has previously announced revivals of series including Virtua Fighter, Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Golden Axe, and Streets of Rage. Meanwhile, new entries in Persona and Total War have been publicly revealed but remain without confirmed launch dates.
The phrase “major new titles” suggests high profile, big budget projects rather than smaller scale spin offs. That makes a significant Sonic release, potentially a new 3D installment, one of the strongest possibilities within the fiscal window.
SEGA also reiterated its commitment to expanding its transmedia strategy. The company confirmed ongoing film and television projects based on its intellectual properties, including the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 4, currently scheduled for March 2027. Additional adaptations across other franchises are also in development.
Taken together, SEGA’s financial roadmap points to a packed year ahead for its biggest properties. While no new Sonic title has been formally announced beyond CrossWorlds’ updates, the confirmation of four major IP releases before March 2027 makes it increasingly difficult to imagine Sonic being left out of the lineup.
