Sonic Dash is shaking things up once again. After over a decade of nonstop running, the mobile hit is finally taking to the skies—literally. A brand-new update introduces aerial gameplay for the first time in the mainline Dash series, and it’s available starting today.

This update adds two key features: Springs and Dash Rings. Springs now appear along the track and will launch Sonic and friends into the air, offering a new way to dodge hazards and extend your run. While airborne, players can pass through Dash Rings to stay aloft, collecting rings and power-ups mid-flight to rack up massive combos.

The new system draws inspiration from Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom, which previously introduced aerial sections to the mobile series. But this marks the first time traditional Sonic Dash has embraced this kind of vertical movement, bringing a fresh twist to the core gameplay.

The update is now live for the free version of Sonic Dash on mobile. SEGA has not yet confirmed if the aerial features will make their way to Sonic Prime Dash or Sonic Dash+, the Netflix and Apple Arcade subscription versions respectively.
