Sonic the Hedgehog 3 actor Lee Majdoub recently opened up about one of the film’s most emotional moments—Agent Stone’s heartfelt farewell to Dr. Ivo Robotnik. As the story unfolds, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles join forces with G.U.N. to take on Shadow, who has allied himself with Agent Stone, Robotnik, and his long-lost grandfather, Gerald Robotnik.

With a stellar cast including Ben Schwartz, Jim Carrey, Idris Elba, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, and Keanu Reeves, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 delivers some of the franchise’s most intense and heartfelt scenes yet.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant’s Grant Hermanns, Majdoub shared his experience filming the pivotal farewell sequence, where Robotnik sacrifices himself to save humanity. Knowing how much the Stone-Robotnik dynamic had evolved over three films, Majdoub felt the weight of the moment but embraced the challenge with the support of the cast and crew.

I think you hit the nail on the head. There was a lot going on in my head, in the sense of I was putting pressure on myself. I tend to do that quite a bit, put a lot of pressure on myself, and I knew how instrumental that moment was going to be in the movie. Because the whole film is about love and loss and grief, and how different characters process that. And I think, for me, it was like, this scene has to work, this moment has to work. It’s going to be a payoff. And for all of us, we don’t know what the future holds. So it was a little bit of like, “Is this a real goodbye for me to the franchise? Is this a goodbye to Jim? Is this a goodbye to the characters?”

So, I did carry a little bit of that in there with me. And it was just having Jeff there and having a team where we’ve all worked together for so long. I don’t want to say it wasn’t challenging as a performance, but I think I just reminded myself, “Be grounded, breathe, you’re supported, and whatever happens happens as far as emotions and everything.” But yeah, I’ve been hearing a lot about that scene from fans. You guys have written about it, other media has written about that scene, and Stone being such a heart of the film. It’s wild to be reading that stuff and see how much it’s connecting with people.

Majdoub’s comments emphasize the depth of Stone’s loyalty, making Robotnik’s neglect of his devoted assistant—choosing to reconnect with Gerald instead—all the more heartbreaking. Despite years of unwavering admiration, Stone is ultimately cast aside, amplifying the impact of their final moments together.

However, with Stone surviving the climactic battle, there’s a strong chance he could return in future films. While Sonic the Hedgehog 3 leaves Robotnik’s fate ambiguous, the possibility of Jim Carrey reprising his role for Sonic the Hedgehog 4 remains open-ended. Given the franchise’s continued success, fans may yet see the iconic villain and his right-hand man reunite on screen.
