On August 6th, English singer-songwriter and musician James Bourne—best known as the co-founder of pop-punk bands Busted and Son of Dork, as well as his electronic project Future Boy—teased a potential track for the highly anticipated Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie, set to hit theaters worldwide at the end of the year!

The video, captioned “Working with @strawberrius on a Sonic the Hedgehog power ballad. 😱😱😱” and tagged with John Fields—an American recording engineer, mixer, and musician known for his work with artists like the Jonas Brothers, Switchfoot, Pink, and Busted—features a snippet of the song with the following lyrics:

Back in the Green Hill Zone
This time I’m on my own
You can’t get people on your phone so[…]

These lyrics hint at a possible return to Green Hill Zone, which was featured in the first Sonic the Hedgehog movie. However, we use the term “possible” because James Bourne has been teasing this song since October 2023. Initially, he mentioned the new Sonic the Hedgehog song on Twitter, but an update last month suggested that the track might not be used in the film and could be released separately.

Yesterday, James followed up his Instagram video with another tweet stating:

We’ve reached out to James for confirmation on whether this song is still intended for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, or if it’s another Bentley Jones situation, but have yet to receive a comment. For now, it’s best to take this tease with a grain of salt.

What do you think of the song snippet? Do you believe Sonic and friends will return to Green Hill Zone in Sonic the Hedgehog 3? Let us know in the comments, and stay tuned to Sonic City for more Sonic Movie 3 news and updates!
