The [nihongo]Erazor Djinn||イレイザー・ジン||Ireizā Jin[/nihongo] is a [[djinn]] and antagonist in the [[Sonic the Hedgehog series|Sonic the Hedgehog series]], serving as the primary villain of [[Sonic and the Secret Rings]]. He is the [nihongo]Genie of the Lamp||ランプの魔神||Ranpu no Majin[/nihongo] from the tale of Aladdin and the Magic Lamp and an evil spirit from the [[world of the Arabian Nights|world of the Arabian Nights]]. After completing the punishment that once sealed him within his [[Magic Lamp]], Erazor turns against the world of his own story and begins erasing the tales of the Arabian Nights in order to absorb their power and reshape that world to his will.

Driven by hatred and ambition, Erazor seeks the seven [[World Rings]] so he can gain complete control over the Arabian Nights and open a path into [[Sonic's world]]. To achieve this, he manipulates [[Sonic the Hedgehog|Sonic]] into gathering the rings for him under the false promise of lifting the [[Flame of Judgment]] curse. His actions make him one of the central threats of the storybook world, and his pursuit of absolute power ultimately leads to his transformation into [[Alf Layla wa-Layla]].

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Appearance</h2>

Erazor Djinn is a tall, muscular, humanoid [[djinn]] with pinkish skin that is sometimes depicted with a more purple tone, marked by red lines across his body. He has black sclera with red pupils, pointed ears, sharp nails, and cardinal-red hair styled into a high ponytail that curls upward. He also wears a matching beard, giving him a striking and severe look befitting his role as the evil [[Genie of the Lamp]].

His clothing combines ornate and traditional fantasy-inspired elements. Erazor wears a long brown cape fastened at the chest with a blue-and-gold jewel, baggy white trousers secured with a brown and gold sash, and curled brown boots fitted with bronze gauntlets. He also wears golden armbands and a blue-beaded earring on his left ear. His most distinctive weapon is a large curved sword styled like a razor, visually reflecting both his name and his destructive role in the Arabian Nights.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">History</h2>

Long before the events of [[Sonic and the Secret Rings]], Erazor Djinn was the [nihongo]Genie of the Lamp||ランプの魔神||Ranpu no Majin[/nihongo] from the tale of Aladdin and the Magic Lamp in the [[world of the Arabian Nights|world of the Arabian Nights]]. At some point, he committed numerous misdeeds and was punished by being sealed within his [[Magic Lamp]], where he was condemned to remain until he had granted the wishes of one thousand people. Although he eventually completed that sentence, the experience left him with a deep hatred for humanity and for the creator of the stories that had imposed such a fate on him.

After regaining his freedom, Erazor set out to seize control of the Arabian Nights themselves. He began releasing the stories from the book and absorbing their power, twisting the inscriptions that supported them into [[Djinn|spirits]] under his command. By doing so, he sought absolute dominion over the storybook world and intended to use that power to open a path into [[Sonic's world]] as well. As part of this plan, he sought the seven [[World Rings]], the artifacts that truly governed the Arabian Nights.

At some point before the main story, Erazor also had a prior connection with [[Shahra]], the [[Genie of the Ring]]. When he began his conquest, he ordered her to help him locate the World Rings. Shahra denied their existence and refused to support him, placing herself in direct opposition to his ambitions.

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Sonic and the Secret Rings</h3>

When [[Sonic the Hedgehog|Sonic]] entered the [[world of the Arabian Nights]], Erazor quickly identified him as an outsider newly added to the story and attempted to kill him. After demanding to know whether Shahra had brought him the World Rings, Erazor fired the [[Flame of Judgment]] at her as punishment for defying him. Sonic intercepted the attack, causing the curse to embed itself in his chest instead. Taking advantage of the situation, Erazor told Sonic that unless he gathered the seven World Rings before the flame burned out, his life would be forfeit. He then departed, leaving Sonic to pursue the rings while Erazor continued carrying out his plans.

Later, Erazor appeared again at the [[Evil Foundry]], where he was summoning the [[Ifrit Golem]] and boasting that much of the Arabian Nights had already been destroyed. When Sonic confronted him there, Erazor again demanded the World Rings, only to realize Sonic had not yet collected them. He mocked Sonic's dwindling life force and left him to continue the search under the threat of the curse.

Sonic and Shahra next encountered Erazor in the [[Night Palace]]. By then, Sonic had succeeded in obtaining the World Rings, though he refused to hand them over. Enraged, Erazor absorbed more of the power of the Arabian Nights, increasing his size and strength in an effort to crush Sonic himself. Despite this, Sonic defeated him. Erazor then escaped in smoke form and retreated deeper into his palace.

Once Sonic used the World Rings to open the sealed throne room, Erazor revealed that he had anticipated this outcome and congratulated Sonic for gathering the rings on his behalf. He then praised Shahra for having used Sonic and manipulated her into surrendering the rings to him, promising that the two of them would rule the world together. Although Sonic tried to stop her by invoking the bond of her ring, Erazor ultimately obtained the seven World Rings.

To unlock their true power, Erazor attempted to sacrifice Sonic as the offering needed to open the gateway between the Arabian Nights and the real world. Before he could complete the act, Shahra threw herself in the way and was fatally wounded instead. Her sacrifice prevented the ritual from proceeding as intended, but Erazor still absorbed the power of the World Rings. Because Sonic had not been offered properly, however, Erazor failed to gain full control and transformed into [[Alf Layla wa-Layla]], a monstrous incomplete form. During this transformation, the World Rings of rage, hatred, and sadness left Erazor and instead empowered Sonic, allowing him to become [[Darkspine Sonic]].

In his transformed state, Erazor battled Darkspine Sonic for control of the storybook world, but he was ultimately defeated. After both combatants reverted to their normal forms, Erazor insisted that he could never truly be destroyed because, as a djinn, he was immortal and would always return. Sonic then revealed that he possessed Erazor's lamp, which Shahra had secretly entrusted to him earlier. As the true wielder of the lamp, Sonic invoked its power and forced Erazor to grant three wishes: the resurrection of Shahra, the restoration of the Arabian Nights, and Erazor's eternal imprisonment within the lamp.

Though Erazor resisted and pleaded for help, he was powerless against the magic binding him to the lamp. After granting Sonic's wishes, he was sealed away once more. Sonic then disposed of the lamp by casting it into the Foundry's lava, either destroying it or leaving it beyond anyone's reach.

In [[Sonic Runners]], Erazor appears as an S Rare [[Buddy]] who generates a [[Shield]] for every thousandth combo.

During the Desert Ruins event, it is revealed that Erazor had somehow been released again, but his body had been split into one thousand smaller and weaker versions of himself. To restore his full form, he was forced to grant the wishes of one thousand people, leading these miniature Erazors to appear from treasures and offer wishes. Seeking to use Erazor for his own schemes, [[Doctor Eggman|Dr. Eggman]] collected one hundred of the mini Erazors and fused them into a single "Super Erazor Djinn" under his command. At the same time, [[Team Sonic]] faced increasingly stronger mini Erazors sent against them by Eggman. During the final confrontation, Team Sonic unveiled that they had prepared and tamed their own "Super Erazor Djinn", which they used to turn the battle in their favor and defeat Eggman's djinn.

In this appearance, he is referred to simply as Erazor rather than by his full name.

Erazor Djinn is a cruel, selfish, and power-hungry despot driven by hatred for humanity and a desire to dominate both the [[world of the Arabian Nights|world of the Arabian Nights]] and [[Sonic's world]]. He is arrogant and theatrical, taking visible pleasure in belittling others and presenting himself as an unstoppable force. Throughout [[Sonic and the Secret Rings]], he repeatedly mocks [[Sonic the Hedgehog|Sonic]] by calling him a "rat", even after being corrected, showing both his spiteful nature and his habit of looking down on those around him.

He is also highly manipulative and cunning. Rather than relying on brute force alone, Erazor prefers to use others as tools to advance his plans. His treatment of Sonic is the clearest example of this, as he exploits the [[Flame of Judgment]] curse to force Sonic into gathering the [[World Rings]] for him. He likewise attempts to manipulate [[Shahra]] emotionally, appealing to her at key moments and promising that they could rule together if she sided with him. These actions show that Erazor is calculating as well as ruthless, willing to exploit trust, fear, or desperation whenever it benefits him.

For all his cruelty, Erazor is not reckless. He is patient enough to let others do the work he needs done, and when setbacks occur, he is quick to adapt and salvage what he can from the situation. His magical ability is stated to far surpass that of [[Shahra]], and he is capable of using that power in a wide range of destructive and supernatural ways. One of his signature techniques is the [[Flame of Judgment]], a cursed arrow of fire that slowly consumes the victim's life force and can kill even immortal beings once its flame burns out.

Erazor can absorb the words and power of the Arabian Nights themselves to increase his own strength. Through this ability, he is able to distort the stories, command [[Djinn|spirits]] and other servants, and bring powerful entities such as the [[Ifrit Golem]] under his control. He can also manipulate objects, create or control dimensional gateways, and suspend structures such as the [[Night Palace]] in the sky. His powers allow him to move swiftly through the air, teleport, enlarge his body, and transform himself into smoke or sand-like form to evade harm or escape confinement.

In combat, Erazor can project energy through his weapon and unleash magical blasts. He is immortal as a djinn and cannot be destroyed by ordinary physical means, which is why defeating him in battle alone is not enough to end his threat permanently. As the [[Genie of the Lamp]], he also possesses the ability to grant wishes, including powerful miracles such as restoration and resurrection, though he never does so willingly unless compelled by the lamp's magic.

Alf Layla wa-Layla is Erazor Djinn's incomplete transformed state, which he attains after absorbing the seven [[World Rings]] without properly completing the ritual required to control them. Because [[Sonic the Hedgehog|Sonic]] was not successfully sacrificed, Erazor fails to gain full mastery over the rings and instead mutates into a monstrous six-armed form. Even so, this transformation greatly amplifies his already immense power.

In this state, Erazor can shape and manipulate the Arabian Nights on a much greater scale. He can fire bolts of purple energy, create lines of flame with his scorpion-like tail, generate small voids that pull in surrounding matter, and gather the words of the book into a massive orb of energy for attack. Although vastly more powerful in this form, he is still incomplete, which leaves him vulnerable to defeat by [[Darkspine Sonic]].

Although Erazor is immortal and extraordinarily powerful, he remains bound by the laws of the [[Magic Lamp]] as its genie. From their first meeting, Erazor shows open contempt toward him, dismissively calling him a "rat" and treating him as beneath him. At various points, he tries to persuade her to join him rather than simply destroy her, promising that they could rule the world together. Even at the very end, when he is being sealed away, he desperately calls out to her for help and claims that the two of them could start over.

Despite this apparent past bond, Erazor treats Shahra with cruelty and selfishness throughout the story. He threatens her, punishes her for defiance, and ultimately kills her when she stands in the way of his goal. His treatment of her shows that whatever connection may once have existed, he values power far more than her well-being. Shahra, for her part, ultimately rejects him completely, choosing to save Sonic and oppose Erazor's plans even at the cost of her own life. Their relationship is therefore marked by manipulation, betrayal, and a final refusal on Shahra's part to forgive or aid him.
