SEGA has announced the launch of Sonic’s Rising Athletes, a new project designed to inspire kids who dream of becoming professional athletes. The initiative aims to give young players the courage to take on challenges and the strength to overcome obstacles while providing opportunities for growth through sport.

As part of the project, SEGA will sponsor the SONIC CUP 2025, a skateboarding competition organized by the Japan Skateboarding Promotion Foundation (JSPF). The event will be held on November 2 in Kisarazu, Tokyo and on November 22 in Osaka, with registration now open.

The tournament will focus on U-15 skaters, giving them a platform to showcase their skills and supporting long-term athlete development. The top two winners from both the Tokyo and Osaka competitions (four total) will earn a 7-day training trip to Los Angeles.

Fans attending the SONIC CUP will also be treated to demo performances from some of Japan’s top skateboarders, including Yuro Nagahara and Hinano Kusaki, both competitors at the Paris Olympics, as well as Otodoki Sasaki, Kyosuke Yamashita, and Sota Tomikawa.

The event will not only spotlight competition but also feature beginner skateboarding lessons led by instructors, along with open skate experiences that anyone can join.

Event Details:

  • Tokyo Tournament: November 2, 2025 (Instant Skateboard Park, Kisarazu, Chiba) — backup date November 3
  • Osaka Tournament: November 22, 2025 (Sennan Long Park, Osaka) — backup dates November 23–24

Morning sessions at both locations will include beginner classes, pro demos, and free skate experiences for newcomers.
