A new report suggests that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 may be adding another major name to its cast!

According to industry insider Jeff Sneider, Academy Award-winning actor Ben Kingsley has reportedly joined the upcoming sequel in what is described as a “key role.” The casting has not yet been officially confirmed by Paramount Pictures or SEGA, but the rumor has already sparked discussion among fans about which character the veteran actor might portray.

Kingsley is best known for his Oscar-winning performance in Gandhi and for appearances across several major franchises, including the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where he played Trevor Slattery. If confirmed, his involvement would add another high-profile performer to the Sonic film series.

The report follows the recent confirmation that Kristen Bell will voice Amy Rose in the upcoming film. Amy made her live-action debut during the mid-credits scene of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, where she rescued Sonic the Hedgehog from a swarm of Metal Sonic robots.

Director Jeff Fowler recently confirmed that production on the fourth installment has begun. Fowler shared a behind-the-scenes image from set showing himself holding a clapperboard alongside Amy’s iconic Piko Piko Hammer, teasing the character’s expanded role in the story.

Plot details remain tightly under wraps. However, Amy and Metal Sonic’s appearance at the end of the previous film has led many fans to speculate that the story could draw inspiration from Sonic the Hedgehog CD, which originally introduced both characters.

The potential addition of Kingsley also raises questions about the future of Jim Carrey as Doctor Eggman. Robotnik appeared to sacrifice himself during the climax of the third film, though Carrey has previously stated he would consider returning if the filmmakers presented the right idea.

If the casting report proves accurate, it could hint at a new major antagonist for the franchise’s next phase. Some fans have speculated about possibilities such as Eggman Nega or even a voice role for Metal Sonic, though no official character details have been revealed.

The Sonic film series has become one of Paramount’s most successful video game adaptations, surpassing $1 billion at the global box office while expanding into television with the Knuckles series on Paramount+.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is currently scheduled to race into theaters worldwide on March 19, 2027.
