Sonic Rumble Ver. 1.3 Update Brings SEGA Stars 2 Crossover With Pengo, Rappy, and Bonanza Bros.

SEGA has announced that Sonic Rumble will receive its Ver. 1.3 update on August 29, 2025, bringing new stages, gameplay improvements, and the return of SEGA Stars with a fresh lineup of crossover characters.

SEGA Stars 2 Crossover
The SEGA Stars 2 event introduces four more SEGA icons:

• Pengo (from the 1982 arcade classic)
• Rappy (mascot of Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis)
• Mobo and Robo (the Bonanza Bros., last seen in Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing)

Pengo can be unlocked via the Free Pass, Rappy is available in the Premium Pass, and the Bonanza Bros. can be purchased in the Red Star Ring Shop for 329 RSR each.

Event Rewards and Items
The crossover also includes new Buddies, skins, and cosmetics inspired by each franchise:

• Pengo: Sno-Bee and Money Bag Buddies
• Phantasy Star Online 2: NGS: Arkuma and Lillipan Buddies
• Returning content from the first SEGA Stars event: Altered Beast and Fantasy Zone items

Players can also unlock stickers, emotes, icons, and effects through Free and Premium Pass progression, as well as Ring and RSR Shop purchases.

Update 1.3 Features
Alongside the crossover, the update introduces major improvements and new content:

• Three new stages: Pinball Carnival Run 2, Desert Ruins Survival, and Green Hill Ring Battle 2
• Skill Test function: Try out Skills before purchasing
• UI and matchmaking upgrades: New tutorial flow, improved matchups, and shorter downtime between rounds
• Score Bonus overhaul: Rare Skins and Epic Buddies can now be leveled to Lv10, with higher bonuses for Epic and Legendary items

Ongoing Events
A new American Football–themed Gridiron Event has also begun, running for 15 days and featuring rewards such as the Quarterback Zavok skin and themed cosmetics.

While there is still no confirmed global launch date for Sonic Rumble beyond 2025, SEGA Japan has announced a showcase event on October 18, suggesting a release later in the year. Until then, the SEGA Stars 2 event ensures plenty of fresh content for players.
