The wait is over. SEGA’s Sonic the Hedgehog collaboration with Magic: The Gathering officially launches today through Wizards of the Coast’s Secret Lair drop system. Featuring custom Commander-focused cards and iconic characters from the Sonic universe, the drop has been highly anticipated — and with good reason. Previous crossover sets have sold out in record time, often leaving fans empty-handed.

To help ease demand and reduce reselling, Wizards has implemented a two-item-per-product limit for this release. According to the official Secret Lair website, “customers may purchase up to two (2) of each product listing (traditional foil drops, non-foil drops, and bundles) while supplies last.”

This new policy is a direct response to community backlash over past releases. The SpongeBob SquarePants drop lacked any limits, leading to mass buyouts and rapid price hikes on secondary markets. A more recent Final Fantasy set sold out in under two hours, while fans waited in online queues for five hours or more.

Fans looking to score the Sonic set today will still need to brave the Secret Lair website, which has a reputation for heavy traffic and long wait times. Still, the newly imposed cap may give more casual fans — not just collectors or resellers — a fair shot.

The Sonic drop includes cards with custom artwork, Commander-ready spells, and the now infamous Chaos Emerald bonus cards, which come in seven color variants. Each product includes only one random bonus card, so completing the full Chaos Emerald set will require some luck, trading, or multiple purchases.

The sale begins today, Monday, July 14 at 12:00 PM EST, exclusively at MagicSecretLair.com. Quantities are limited, so fans are encouraged to get in early.
