Magic: The Gathering is going supersonic with its upcoming Secret Lair x Sonic the Hedgehog set, and fans who love both card collecting and Chaos Emeralds are in for a real challenge. Set to launch on July 14, this Sonic-themed drop includes not only iconic characters and settings, but also a bonus card system that mirrors the hunt for the seven Chaos Emeralds from the games.
Each Sonic Secret Lair drop includes a mystery bonus card, but this time, Wizards of the Coast has revealed the surprises in advance: a Master Emerald Shrine Command Tower and a Chaos Emerald Lotus Petal. The twist? While the Master Emerald card has only one version, there are seven Chaos Emeralds to collect — one for each color seen in the Sonic the Hedgehog series.
Just like in the games, collecting all seven won’t be easy. Each drop only includes one random bonus card, meaning even if you buy all three available drops on launch day, you’ll still only have three chances to score a Chaos Emerald. And that’s assuming you don’t get duplicates — or the Master Emerald instead.
Fans and collectors hoping to assemble the full Chaos Emerald set will need to go all-in, trade with others, or rely on the secondary market. With limited quantities and high demand, these bonus cards are expected to become some of the most elusive and valuable Sonic collectibles to date.
Whether you’re aiming to collect them all or just want to secure a piece of Sonic history, this SEGA x MTG crossover is shaping up to be a major highlight for fans of both franchises.
