To close out 2022, we ran a poll throughout December to gauge whether our readers were satisfied with the Blue Blur’s adventures that year—and the results couldn’t be clearer! Out of a total of 38 votes, an impressive 100% of participants expressed satisfaction with Sonic’s outings in 2022.
It’s no surprise considering how packed the year was for Sonic fans. Kicking things off, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 premiered early in the year, quickly becoming the highest-grossing video game film in U.S. history. Following that, Sonic Origins launched in June. While it received mixed reactions from longtime fans, the collection managed to reignite interest from some older, previously disengaged players.
November brought the release of Sonic Frontiers, which delivered a fresh, open-zone experience to the franchise. The game sold over 2.5 million units in its first month, making it the second fastest-selling game in Sonic history! Rounding out the year, Sonic Prime debuted on Netflix to positive reception from both longtime fans and general audiences.
2022 wasn’t just about games and shows—Sonic fans were also treated to ongoing releases from the IDW Sonic comics and a variety of exciting merchandise throughout the year.
Looking ahead, 2023 promises even more Blue Blur goodness. Sonic Frontiers has a slate of DLC scheduled throughout the year, and another batch of Sonic Prime episodes is set to release, potentially bringing even more surprises.
