SEGA revealed when the story of Sonic Frontiers takes place in a recent interview.

Some fans may have wondered how Sonic Frontiers’ story would fit into the overall story of the Sonic franchise, as it appears that many of their stories are interconnected. According to one interview, the newest title appears to be linked to the long story of the Sonic franchise.

Takashi Iizuka, producer of Sonic Frontiers, recently spoke with media outlet Sector about the game. One of the details he revealed was the link between their new game and previous games in the franchise. He revealed that the story takes place after the events of Sonic Forces and Team Sonic Racing.

Following the events of those two games, Sonic, Amy, and Tails travel to the Starfall Islands in search of the Chaos Emeralds, according to Iizuka. When they arrive, Sonic goes off on his own and is separated from his friends. He unravels the island’s mysteries and is now drawn to a different, larger goal.

Iizuka also disclosed that they are collaborating with Ian Flynn, who has long been a highly prominent contributor to the Sonic franchise.
