<p><strong>Sonic PICT</strong>, stylized as <strong>SONICPICT</strong>, or <strong>Sonic Pict</strong>, is a recurring illustration feature published on [[Sonic Channel]], Sega's official Japanese website for the [[Sonic the Hedgehog series|<em>Sonic the Hedgehog</em> series]]. The feature presents official artwork of characters from the franchise in seasonal, comedic, dramatic, or everyday scenarios, with many entries accompanied by short side stories.</p>

<p>The Sonic PICT archive includes entries dating back to September 2019. Earlier entries were presented as monthly Sonic PICT illustrations, while later entries became tied more directly to Sonic Channel's calendar artwork. From 2025 onward, Sonic Channel began labeling the feature as both Sonic PICT and monthly calendar artwork, with each entry appearing under the site's Side Story section.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Overview</h2>

<p>Sonic PICT is a recurring Sonic Channel feature built around official character illustrations. Each entry presents a themed artwork piece, usually centered on one or more characters from the [[Sonic the Hedgehog series|<em>Sonic the Hedgehog</em> series]], with the scene often framed around seasonal events, everyday activities, comedy, holidays, travel, celebrations, or character-specific situations.</p>

<p>The feature is published through Sonic Channel's Side Story section and functions as one of the site's ongoing artwork archives. Entries are dated individually and arranged in reverse chronological order, with the archive beginning in September 2019. The earliest entries were presented as standalone Sonic PICT illustrations, while later entries became more closely connected to Sonic Channel's monthly calendar content.</p>

<p>From 2025 onward, Sonic Channel began presenting Sonic PICT entries as monthly calendar artwork, with titles formatted as "SONICPICT [year] [month] calendar" followed by the name of the featured illustration. This made Sonic PICT part of the site's broader calendar feature while still preserving its role as an official artwork and side-story series.</p>

<p>Across its run, Sonic PICT has featured a wide range of characters from the franchise, including major protagonists, supporting characters, villains, and less frequently spotlighted cast members. The scenes often use the characters' established personalities, relationships, and settings as the basis for light narrative moments rather than direct adaptations of game events.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Publication history</h2>

<p>The artwork series that later became Sonic PICT was first shared through the official Japanese Sonic social media account before being collected under the Sonic PICT name. Early illustrations were initially archived through Twitter Moments, a feature that was later discontinued. <p>The first illustration later included in the Sonic PICT archive was originally posted by the official Japanese Sonic account on Twitter on 23 September 2019.[cite_web url="https://x.com/SonicOfficialJP/status/1175945588623335424" title="@SonicOfficialJP on X" date="23 September 2019" publisher="X" language="Japanese"] The illustration was later archived on Sonic Channel as "No Matter Where I Go, Chili Dogs Are the Best!?" The series continued with "YOU SCREAM, CREAM!?" in October and "Cutting Through the Aurora Night Sky..." in December, establishing the format as a recurring series of standalone character illustrations.</p>

<p>In 2020, the illustration series continued with seasonal and character-focused entries, including Valentine's Day, White Day, Mother's Day, Sonic's birthday, summer, Halloween, autumn, and Christmas-themed artwork. The name Sonic PICT and the hashtag #sonicpict first appeared with "To my beloved mom...!", which was posted by the official Japanese Sonic account on Twitter on 10 May 2020.[cite_web url="https://x.com/SonicOfficialJP/status/1259302134983491585" title="@SonicOfficialJP on X" date="10 May 2020" publisher="X" language="Japanese"] The label was then adopted as the official name for the recurring monthly illustration feature, which was later archived on Sonic Channel. The 2020 run ended with "The Silver-White Santa Claus" in December.</p>

<p>Sonic PICT continued in 2021 with a full year of monthly entries. The illustrations featured a wider range of character-focused scenarios, including New Year activities, spring imagery, treasure hunting, rainy weather, Sonic's birthday, summer festivals, Halloween, and Christmas. The series maintained its format as a Sonic Channel side-story artwork feature, with each entry built around a single titled illustration.</p>

<p>The 2022 run continued the monthly format from January through December. Entries included seasonal artwork, character comedy, birthday-themed artwork, festival scenes, quiet character moments, and holiday illustrations. The year ended with the December entry "これが...プレゼント..." ("This is... a present..."), continuing the series' pattern of combining visual character moments with short title-based story framing.</p>

<p>In 2023, Sonic PICT again received monthly entries from January through December. The year's artwork included themes such as improvement and repair, heartfelt gifts, deliveries, jewels, botanical scenery, Sonic's birthday, fishing, underwater adventure, Halloween, friendship, and character-specific dramatic imagery. The 2023 entries continued to appear as part of Sonic Channel's Side Story section.</p>

<p>The dedicated Sonic PICT section on Sonic Channel was introduced in March 2024, at which point past artwork and future entries were collected in a single archive on the website.[cite_web url="https://x.com/krack932/status/1771708171855225178" title="@krack932 on X" date="23 March 2024" publisher="X"] The 2024 entries continued the dated Sonic PICT post format and included artwork centered on winter, spring outings, travel preparations, food, nature, summer hiking, mystery objects, Halloween-style comedy, and beach-themed scenes. <p>Beginning with the 2025 calendar entries, Sonic Channel presented Sonic PICT as monthly calendar artwork. Titles were formatted as "SONICPICT 2025年[month]カレンダー" followed by the illustration title. The 2025 run featured entries for Chaotix, Blaze, Jet, Silver, laundry-day comedy, Mephiles, Cream, Shadow, Rouge, Elise, and a Christmas-themed illustration, while continuing to be filed under Sonic Channel's Side Story section.</p>

<p>The 2026 run continued the calendar-linked Sonic PICT format. The first entries included "ソニックと至福のおでん" ("Sonic and Blissful Oden") for January, "ふにゃ～......" ("Funya~......") for February, "王家の谷の遺跡書庫" ("The Ruin Library of the Royal Valley") for March, "テイルスのキャンパスライフ" ("Tails' Campus Life") for April, and "ルージュのセレブなカジノバカンス" ("Rouge's Celebrity Casino Vacation") for May.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Format</h2>

<p>Sonic PICT entries are presented as individual Sonic Channel posts built around a single official illustration. Each entry includes a title, publication date, featured artwork, and a short written description or story-style caption that frames the scene. The artwork usually focuses on one or more characters from the [[Sonic the Hedgehog series|<em>Sonic the Hedgehog</em> series]] in a specific situation, with the accompanying text giving context to the characters' actions, expressions, setting, or theme.</p>

<p>The feature uses a flexible format rather than a single continuous storyline. Entries may depict seasonal events, holidays, travel, daily life, comedy scenes, action-oriented moments, or quieter character interactions. While many illustrations are lighthearted, some entries use more dramatic imagery or focus on characters associated with more serious storylines. The format allows Sonic Channel to spotlight both major characters and less frequently featured members of the cast.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Side stories</h3>

<p>Sonic PICT is published through Sonic Channel's Side Story section. In this context, each illustration functions as a short self-contained scene rather than a direct game adaptation. The written portions usually describe the moment shown in the artwork, expand on the featured characters' behavior, or present a short scenario connected to the illustration.</p>

<p>The side-story format gives Sonic Channel a way to present character-focused material outside of main game releases. These entries often rely on existing character traits and relationships, such as Sonic's love of chili dogs, Tails' technical interests, Amy's enthusiasm, Rouge's glamorous image, Blaze's composed personality, or the Chaotix Detective Agency's comedic group dynamic.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Calendar integration</h3>

<p>From the 2025 calendar onward, Sonic PICT became more directly integrated with Sonic Channel's monthly calendar artwork. Entries began using titles formatted around the month and year, such as "SONICPICT 2025年1月カレンダー", followed by the specific title of the illustration. This linked the feature to Sonic Channel's recurring downloadable calendar content while keeping the Sonic PICT name as the label for the artwork series.</p>

<p>Under this format, each monthly calendar entry is also treated as a Sonic PICT post in the Side Story section. The artwork serves both as a monthly calendar illustration and as a standalone character scene with its own title and description.</p>
