A new leak suggests that Sonic the Hedgehog could be heading back to Fortnite in a much bigger way than before. According to Fortnite insider AdiraFNInfo, a full Sonic collaboration is currently in development and is expected to include playable character skins rather than cosmetic-only items.
If accurate, this would mark a significant upgrade from Sonic’s previous Fortnite crossover in September 2025, which was limited to themed footwear and Rocket League decals. That release disappointed many fans who were hoping to play as Sonic characters directly, something that has become standard for major Fortnite collaborations.
AdiraFNInfo stated that the upcoming collaboration is “likely skins, not pets,” distinguishing it from past crossovers such as SpongeBob SquarePants, where characters appeared only as back accessories. While no official details have been announced by Epic Games or SEGA, the wording suggests full character models rather than novelty items.
No release window has been confirmed, but the timing has drawn attention. Sonic’s 35th anniversary celebrations are underway, and SEGA is expected to host anniversary-related announcements throughout 2026. Some fans speculate the crossover could be revealed during an upcoming Sonic-focused livestream, though there is currently no confirmation to support that.
At this stage, no characters have been named. Sonic himself would be the most obvious inclusion, with Tails also a likely candidate. Shadow the Hedgehog is another frequent request, particularly following renewed attention from Sonic x Shadow Generations and Sonic Movie 3. Until SEGA or Epic Games comment publicly, all character details remain unconfirmed.
As with all leaks, this information should be treated cautiously. Still, the claim of playable Sonic skins represents the strongest indication yet that Fortnite players may finally get a true Sonic crossover rather than a cosmetic tie-in.
