A new trademark filing suggests that SEGA may be preparing something new related to Shadow the Hedgehog. According to Japan’s public trademark repositories, SEGA filed a Shadow the Hedgehog trademark in September 2025, covering a wide range of categories including clothing, toys, and computer programs.

While the filing does not explicitly reference any upcoming games, its inclusion of software alongside merchandise indicates that SEGA intends to keep the Shadow the Hedgehog brand active across multiple mediums.

The original Shadow the Hedgehog launched in 2005 for the Nintendo GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox, gaining attention for its darker tone and gun-based gameplay. Interest in the character has seen a major resurgence following the success of Sonic × Shadow Generations, and Sonic The Hedgehog 3 both of which remain one of SEGA’s and Paramount’s most celebrated recent releases.

Whether this new trademark points toward a new project, a remaster, or simple brand maintenance remains unclear, but SEGA’s timing suggests the company isn’t done spotlighting its ultimate lifeform just yet.
