
Fans in Japan will want to tune in tonight, August 28, as BS-TBS broadcasts a special Sonic the Hedgehog retrospective on its weekly program X Years Later: The People Involved at 9 PM JST.
Hosted by comedian Kazlaser of Maple Chogokin, the program brings together influential figures behind cultural milestones to reflect on their creation and legacy. This week’s episode turns the spotlight on Sonic, exploring how the blue hedgehog rose to rival Mario and spark a movement in America during the early 1990s.
Appearing on the program are several legendary figures tied to the franchise:
- Takashi Iizuka – Sonic Series Producer
- Tadashi Takezaki – former SEGA product PR head, now president of TMS Entertainment
- Kazuyuki Hoshino – longtime Creative Director on Sonic projects
- Jun Senoue – iconic Sound Director behind many of Sonic’s most beloved soundtracks
Together, they will revisit the strategies, challenges, and cultural shifts that propelled Sonic to global superstardom, offering rare behind-the-scenes insights into the brand’s historic rise.
