SEGA’s next big Sonic title, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, is shaping up to be more than just another kart racer. While we’re still waiting for a full reveal and official release date, some playful social media exchanges have sparked fresh speculation that the game might feature more than just Sonic and friends behind the wheel—and not just more SEGA characters, either. This time, guest racers from outside SEGA’s lineup may be entering the race.
It all started with the announcement that Like A Dragon skins were being added to Among Us. Fans quickly connected the dots, noting that the crewmates from Among Us had already appeared in Super Monkey Ball earlier this year. When someone suggested that CrossWorlds could be the next step in this unexpected crossover trend, the official Among Us account responded with a cheeky, “Mr. Sonic, call me.” SEGA replied with a playful, “you rang?”
That exchange might not confirm anything on its own, but it’s certainly enough to raise eyebrows—especially considering this would mark the third crossover between Among Us and a SEGA-published title in 2025. Add to that SEGA’s previous tease that CrossWorlds will include “iconic characters from the Sonic and SEGA universes,” and it’s not hard to imagine a few surprise guests from beyond SEGA’s usual roster.
So far, only Sonic universe characters have been shown in CrossWorlds, based on footage from the Closed Network Test held last month. Players got their first hands-on look at gameplay, but SEGA has since confirmed that more characters will be added post-launch, including those from non-Sonic SEGA IPs. If SEGA is going a step further and tapping into non-SEGA franchises, event racers or even pre-order exclusives like the Among Us crewmates don’t seem far-fetched.
It’s been a while since a Sonic racing game embraced a broader roster. Team Sonic Racing (2019) kept the focus strictly on Sonic characters, whereas Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed (2012) included SEGA legends like Vyse from Skies of Arcadia, Ulala from Space Channel 5, and even real-world guests like Danica Patrick and Wreck-It Ralph.
If Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is indeed reviving that crossover spirit—and expanding it beyond SEGA IPs—it could end up being the most ambitious Sonic racer yet.

I can’t quite put my finger on this, but should this be – and I quote – “the biggest crossover yet”, then it would be awesome. I mean, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen special guests in a Sonic game.
