SEGA CORPORATION has announced that Sonic the Hedgehog 3, co-produced with its U.S. subsidiary SEGA of America, Inc. and Paramount Pictures, has achieved a remarkable global box office gross of $425 million, surpassing the $405 million record set by its predecessor, Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Paramount Pictures has also confirmed the release date for the highly anticipated Sonic the Hedgehog 4, set to hit theaters on March 19, 2027.

The Sonic the Hedgehog film series, a Hollywood adaptation of SEGA’s iconic video game franchise, chronicles the adventures of Sonic, the world’s fastest hedgehog, as he navigates life on Earth. The second installment, released in 2022, introduced the enigmatic Shadow the Hedgehog amidst the bustling, neon-lit streets of Tokyo, delivering expansive action sequences and the franchise’s most ambitious scale to date.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 premiered in the U.S. on December 20, 2024, earning $60.1 million in its opening weekend (December 20–22) and claiming the No. 1 spot at the box office. Internationally, the film achieved the franchise’s largest opening yet, debuting at No. 1 in over 30 markets, including the U.K., Mexico, Italy, Australia, and more.

In Japan, the film premiered on December 27, 2024, breaking records with over 188.2 million yen at the box office, exceeding Sonic the Hedgehog 2’s total of 234 million yen. This sets a new high for the series in the Japanese market.

With its three installments combined, the Sonic the Hedgehog film franchise has now surpassed an incredible $1 billion in worldwide box office revenue, cementing its status as a global phenomenon and a beloved staple in family entertainment.

Fans eagerly anticipate Sonic the Hedgehog 4, which promises to continue the high-speed adventures of Sonic and his friends, further expanding the franchise’s cinematic universe.
