Sarah Paulson has officially debunked rumors about her casting as Rouge the Bat in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. In an exclusive interview with ComicBook during the promotion of her upcoming Hulu movie Hold Your Breath, Paulson addressed the speculation head-on, stating that she has not been approached to voice Rouge the Bat. However, she expressed her openness to joining the Sonic franchise in the future, saying, “Nobody has called me about playing Rouge the Bat, but I would like them to.”
This clarification comes after fan rumors began circulating when a Sonic the Hedgehog 3 casting page mentioned Paulson’s name in connection with Rouge the Bat. Many suspected this was due to incorrect information or a Wiki edit. Paulson was enthusiastic about the possibility, humorously adding that if anyone wanted to pass her name along, she’d be “down” for it. However, for now, there is no official confirmation of Rouge’s presence in the film, let alone Paulson’s involvement.
Paulson also reflected on her previous experience in a comic-based movie, recalling her role in The Spirit (2008). While that film wasn’t widely received, Paulson expressed her desire to be part of a successful comic book movie, stating, “I want to be in a comic book movie so badly.”
Though fans may not hear Paulson’s voice in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, they’ll see her next in Hold Your Breath, a thriller set in 1930s Oklahoma, premiering on Hulu on October 3rd. As for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, it is scheduled to hit theaters on December 20th.
