This month’s commemorative illustration from Sonic Channel features none other than Emerl, the ultimate battle robot known as a ‘Gizoid,’ built by an ancient civilization. Emerl first made his appearance in 2003’s Sonic Battle for the GBA and will soon return in the upcoming animated prologue for Sonic X Shadow Generations, titled Dark Beginnings.

As always, check out the full illustration along with Eitaro Toyoda’s commentary below!

The release commemorative illustration series for September 2024 is now available! ✨
This time, it’s “Emerl” from Sonic Battle 🎨

Emerl is the ultimate battle robot left behind by an ancient civilization 🤖.
While he learned skills and emotions alongside Sonic and friends, he ultimately went berserk in the end…🔥

He’s everyone’s eternal friend, known for his overwhelming strength, but also his innocence and vulnerability.

In Gerald’s Diary from Sonic Battle, there’s a mention that this ancient combat robot, the “Gizoid” (later known as Emerl), was being researched on the ARK and went berserk. Could that be related to that scene from the anime…?

Since this text is for the release anniversary illustration of Sonic Battle, I focused on writing about “Emerl” 🙂
