The future of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is already taking shape well beyond its launch window. In Famitsu’s newly published end-of-year creator survey, creative director Masaru Kobayakawa shared insight into how the team is looking ahead to 2026 and treating the game as an evolving experience rather than a one-time release.
Famitsu’s annual survey collected responses from 171 game creators across the industry, including other Sonic Team members such as Shun Nakamura and Mizuki Hosoyamada. When asked about his goals for the year ahead, Kobayakawa focused on CrossWorlds as a title designed to grow over time.
In September 2025, we released Sonic Racing CrossWorlds. Perhaps because we poured in over 30 years of racing game know-how, starting with SEGA Rally, it was very well received by people around the world. We plan to continue delivering the service throughout the 2026 season as well, and we are also preparing many surprises that go beyond what was available at launch. With “gameplay fun,” true to a team rooted in arcade development, as our core, we aim to make it a year that surprises everyone.
With long-term support already planned and more surprises on the way, CrossWorlds appears positioned to keep evolving well into 2026.
