This month’s SONIC PICT kicks off the new year with Sonic right away! We’re starting strong with the January calendar this year!

Under a cold winter night sky with snow gently falling, this illustration shows Sonic 100 percent in off-duty mode, blowing on a warm, delicious-looking bowl of convenience store oden.

The setting is Metro City, with its dazzling neon lights and a distinctly Tokyo-style atmosphere, which makes the bright glass walls of the convenience store feel especially familiar and relatable. Even though it’s dark and freezing cold, the warm and tasty memory of eating convenience store oden at just the right moment, combined with Sonic’s casual movements, really brings the whole illustration together beautifully. The way he’s sitting on his scarf is also kind of adorable!

And honestly, Sonic looks like he’s enjoying it so much, blowing on the oden to cool it down. Now I’m thinking I might stop by a convenience store on my way home today. How about you all?
