Paramount+ may be preparing to expand the Sonic the Hedgehog universe once again.

According to a new insider report, a second live-action Sonic television series is currently in development for Paramount+. The claim follows Sonic’s first streaming outing with Knuckles, which debuted in 2024 and marked the franchise’s first move beyond theatrical releases.

The report comes from industry insider Daniel Richtman, who stated that “another Sonic live-action show is in development for Paramount+.” No additional details were shared, but the timing fits neatly with Paramount’s increasingly ambitious plans for the franchise.

Paramount has already confirmed Sonic the Hedgehog 4 for a March 19, 2027 theatrical release and recently dated an untitled “Sonic Universe Event Film” for December 22, 2028. With the Sonic film series now surpassing one billion dollars at the global box office, it is no surprise to see the studio continuing to invest in the brand across multiple formats.

As for what this new series could focus on, there are several likely possibilities. A second season of Knuckles would be the most direct option, continuing the story of Idris Elba’s echidna alongside Adam Pally’s Wade Whipple. While reactions to the first season were mixed, it successfully expanded the movie universe and left room for more character-driven storytelling.

Another strong possibility is a Shadow the Hedgehog centered series. Shadow made his live-action debut in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, voiced by Keanu Reeves, and his ending left the door wide open for a deeper solo story. With recent reports suggesting the 2028 Sonic movie could lean toward a Sonic Heroes style team-up, a Shadow-focused Paramount+ series would be a natural place to explore his character in greater depth.
