After more than a year of waiting, Limited Run Games has finally begun shipping the Sonic X Shadow Generations Collector’s Editions. Unfortunately, for many fans, the long delay has only made the disappointment feel worse.
Limited Run Games is known for extended production timelines, but this release appears to have tested community patience more than most. The Collector’s Edition, sold at a premium price, was originally expected to ship in July, already months after the game’s launch. That window later shifted to November, pushing delivery to more than a full year after the original release.
Now that copies are arriving, attention has quickly focused on the statue that served as the centerpiece of the package. Early photos shared online show Shadow the Hedgehog looking noticeably off model, with facial proportions and eye placement that differ sharply from the promotional renders shown during the preorder period. Many fans have questioned whether the final product reflects what was advertised.
While some images suggest that Sonic himself appears closer to expectations, Shadow has become the clear focal point of criticism. Even if the issue ends up affecting only certain units, it has reignited familiar concerns within the Sonic community regarding Limited Run Games’ quality control and transparency during production.
For a Collector’s Edition built around presentation, nostalgia, and premium appeal, expectations were understandably high. Receiving the product more than a year later and reacting with frustration instead of excitement has left a sour impression on what should have been a celebratory release for Sonic X Shadow Generations.
As more shipments reach customers, it remains to be seen whether the backlash will grow or whether Limited Run Games will respond directly to the concerns being raised. For now, the long awaited Collector’s Edition stands as a cautionary example for fans considering future premium releases from Limited Run Games.
