SEGA and KADOKAWA have announced a brand new Sonic the Hedgehog themed language book titled Survival Japanese with SONIC THE HEDGEHOG, releasing January 27 2026. The book aims to help readers learn practical Japanese expressions, cultural tips and everyday manners with support from original Sonic illustrations created specifically for this release.

The project features art by Yuki Imada and writing by Ann Crescini. Each chapter blends Sonic inspired visuals with simple English explanations that cover useful greetings, travel situations, etiquette and cultural insights. Since the entire book is written in English, it is accessible to readers with no prior Japanese knowledge and also serves as a helpful study tool for Japanese readers learning English.

The book focuses on practical expressions for common travel scenarios while introducing aspects of Japanese culture in a clear and enjoyable format. Topics range from transportation and dining etiquette to festivals, shrines, onsen and regional customs across Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka inspired zones.

Sections included in the table of contents are as follows:

  • Warm Up Zone, which covers greetings, basic grammar, numbers and dining manners.
  • Tokyo Zone, which explains transportation, shopping, eating out and nightlife.
  • Kyoto Zone, which highlights shrines, hotels, festivals and onsen.
  • Osaka Zone, which explores historical sites, regional culture, sports and seasons.
  • An appendix listing essential vocabulary and Japanese food names completes the book.

With 160 full color pages and a focus on clear explanations, this release is positioned as an ideal gift for Sonic fans, foreign visitors to Japan or anyone beginning their Japanese language journey.

Survival Japanese with SONIC THE HEDGEHOG will be available for 2.200 yen including tax starting January 27 2026.
