Sonic Channel has released its commemorative illustration for November 2025 and this month’s spotlight goes to Mephiles the Dark, the iconic villain from Sonic the Hedgehog released in 2006. The timing is fitting as the game celebrated its 19th anniversary on November 14th, bringing renewed attention to one of the most memorable antagonists in the series.

Mephiles was born from the mind and will of Solaris during the Solaris Project experiments, which split the sun god into two beings Mephiles and Iblis. Immediately after his creation, he was sealed inside the Scepter of Darkness by a time traveling Shadow the Hedgehog. Ten years later he was accidentally released during a confrontation between Shadow, Rouge the Bat and Doctor Eggman.

Once free, Mephiles launched a complex plan across time. He targeted Shadow with visions of a bleak future and manipulated events to release Iblis from Princess Elise. His scheme ultimately resulted in the temporary death of Sonic the Hedgehog. When Mephiles and Iblis reunited into Solaris, the three hedgehogs Sonic, Shadow and Silver fought together to defeat the reborn deity. After Sonic and Elise extinguished Solaris in the distant past, Mephiles was erased from the timeline.

We’ve released the commemorative illustration for November 2025! 🎨
This time it features Mephiles from Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). 😈

Having fulfilled his long-held wish through a certain cold-blooded method, Mephiles now wears an expression that hints at a twisted sense of pleasure…

It feels as if we can almost hear his mocking voice, laughing at our shock.
