The wait is over. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is finally here. SEGA has launched the newest entry in the Sonic racing franchise today, September 25, across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

This ambitious racer introduces the Travel Ring mechanic, which warps players into entirely new CrossWorlds dimensions mid-race. The system changes track layouts on the fly and adds a fresh layer of unpredictability to every lap. Alongside this new feature, the game also includes the largest roster in the series’ history, combining Sonic and his friends with a growing lineup of crossover characters.

The base game already includes Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Amy, and more. Free post-launch updates will add SEGA icons such as Joker from Persona 5 Royal, Ichiban Kasuga from Yakuza: Like a Dragon, and Hatsune Miku. The Digital Deluxe Edition and Season Pass expand the roster even further, with crossover racers and courses from Minecraft, SpongeBob SquarePants, Pac-Man, Mega Man, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, as well as Sonic Prime characters Knuckles the Dread, Rusty Rose, and Tails Nine.

Players can try out several modes, including Grand Prix, World Match online races, Time Trials, and the new Rival System, which pairs racers with rivals who trade unique pre-race banter. Cross-platform play allows up to 12 players to race together worldwide, while local multiplayer supports up to 4 players in split-screen.

Pricing begins at $59.99 USD on Nintendo Switch and $69.99 USD on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. A Nintendo Switch 2 version is planned for later this holiday digitally, with a physical release arriving in early 2026. Current Switch owners will be able to upgrade for $10.

To celebrate launch day, SEGA has released a new launch trailer, showcasing Sonic and friends tearing through the unpredictable CrossWorlds. You can watch it here:
