The Sonic the Hedgehog Secret Lair set for Magic: The Gathering only just launched, but scalpers have already flooded resale sites with listings at double or even triple the original price. Despite Wizards of the Coast implementing a strict two-per-item limit for this drop, early buyers wasted no time flipping their orders on platforms like eBay.
As of this writing, the Sonic x Secret Lair bundle is still available directly from MagicSecretLair.com, unlike the recent Final Fantasy Universes Beyond drop, which sold out in under two hours. However, that hasn’t stopped resellers from trying to cash in early. One UK-based eBay listing features a foil bundle marked “ORDER CONFIRMED” for nearly three times MSRP. Similar markups are being seen across single product listings and other bundles.
Even before the drop sells out, scalpers are banking on Secret Lair’s limited print model to inflate aftermarket prices. This pattern has become all too familiar in recent years — buyers secure exclusive drops at retail, only to list them for profit before most fans even get through the checkout queue.
To their credit, Wizards of the Coast’s purchase limit did help stabilize the release. The queue system held up, and stock has remained available longer than past drops. But for fans still waiting their turn, watching prices skyrocket elsewhere is a frustrating reminder that exclusivity continues to attract resellers.
If you’re planning to secure your own copy of Sonic’s Secret Lair, now’s the time. Once stock runs out, the only way to complete your Chaos Emerald collection may be through costly third-party sellers.
